In 2003 I was able to take 6 weeks off for a holiday. We decided on travelling to Australia, a long-held wish of mine. We took a group tour with other international travellers. After a stopover in Singapore we flew to Darwin where we started our journey after two days.
From Darwin we traveled to Alice Springs via the following places; Litchfield NP, Kakadu NP, Nitmiluk NP (Katherine Gorge), Alice Springs and surroundings like Simpson Gap, Angkerle (Standley Chasm), Ormiston Gorge, Glen Helen Gorge, Kings Canyon, Kata Tjuta (Olga’s), Uluru (Ayers Rock). There we saw the discolouration of the rock by the sunset while enjoying a glass of Champagne.
From Alice Springs we flew to Cairns, from there we visited the following places: Port Douglas, Daintree NP, Mossman Gorge, Mission Beach, Daydream Island (Whitsunday Islands), with a Cessna to Lady Elliot Island (a coral island In the south of the Great Barrier Reef), Fraser Island, Brisbane, Lamington NP, Byron Bay and Sydney where we stayed for a few more days.
Absolute highlights were a boat trip on the Yellow Water Billabong, a day trip snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef from Daydream Island and our stay at Lady Elliot Island where we walked 50m from our room to the reef to snorkel.
I did not photograph well at that time and so I have only put up a few scanned photos.
